my son's birthday
For my son's birthday, we visited Universal and let him choose every ride for the first half of the day. That meant going on Hagrid's before breakfast had properly settled. It made for a great memory.

Hollywood Studios had the rides our teenagers preferred, but Magic Kingdom still felt most special because of the castle, evening atmosphere and older attractions.

Universal for older children
With simple ticket entry, Universal was our favourite over Disney this holiday. Hagrid's, VelociCoaster and the Harry Potter areas suited our older children.

Universal suited our three generations better than I'd expected. Some of us went on the thrill rides, while the grandparents explored the calmer areas with our younger child.

A happy finish
Guardians was the last major ride of our holiday, and it turned out to be a very good one to end on. The whole family loved it. By the time we left EPCOT, we were tired but very happy with how the Disney part of our trip had gone.

Worth visiting with older children
Hollywood Studios was ideal for our older children, who loved Star Wars and the bigger attractions. My husband enjoyed taking photos, and entry was problem-free.

For our family, Hollywood Studios had the strongest rides, though it was also the busiest park we visited. We'd got there early, so we managed to do the main things before the crowds were at their worst.

It was a lovely first day.
We arranged our Magic Kingdom admission in the UK, and it was all sorted before we flew. Our daughter cried when she saw the castle, which set the tone for the day, although I had not expected that reaction at all.

Chose the non-dolphin option and still enjoyed a full day away from the parks!

Brilliant
Our admission had been sorted a couple of months ahead of the trip, so everything was ready when we arrived. VelociCoaster was brilliant once we were on it, although my fourteen-year-old had persuaded me to ride and I spent most of the queue regretting agreeing.
